We are the Ipswich<\/strong> branch of the Extinction Rebellion<\/a> protest group, rebelling against political inaction upon and widespread social apathy about escalating climate and ecological breakdown<\/em>, including such symptoms as: species loss<\/a>, crop failure<\/a>, global warming<\/a> and the endangerment of our children\u2019s lives<\/a>, now<\/a> and in the future<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

01. TELL THE TRUTH
\u2013<\/h6>\n\n\n\n

Government must tell the truth by declaring a climate and ecological emergency, working with other institutions to communicate the urgency for change<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

02. ACT NOW
\u2013<\/h6>\n\n\n\n

Government must act now to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

03. BEYOND POLITICS
\u2013<\/h6>\n\n\n\n

Government must create and be led by the decisions of a Citizens\u2019 Assembly on climate and ecological justice.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Local Goals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Demands for Suffolk County Council and Ipswich Borough Council<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n

1.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suffolk County Council and Ipswich Borough Council must commit to tackling the Climate and Ecological Emergency with a sense of urgency and rigour. This must include the publication of detailed activities to ensure that all their actions and investments, including pensions, are carbon zero by 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That Ipswich Borough Council, as a matter of urgency, must publish an Air Quality Management Plan and, along with Suffolk County Council and Ipswich Buses, implement effective measures to reduce the air pollution to well below the legal limit within a period of two years. This must include comprehensive action on the Statutory Guidance to Local Authorities re new traffic management issued on 23rd May by the Secretary of State for Transport, in which he encouraged councils to make significant changes to their road layouts to give more space for cyclists and pedestrians. It must also include measures to reduce and eventually eliminate private vehicle traffic within the town centre including the scrapping of plans to build more car parks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suffolk County Council and Ipswich Borough Council must make every decision with high regard to how it will impact biodiversity and the environment. It is imperative that all local authority and public sector projects, and all planning decisions within Suffolk prioritise first and foremost halting the loss of biodiversity and ecological systems.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
